INDIGENOUS LINKS

INDIGENOUS LINKS was initiated in 1999 by three individuals who met in the United States on a tour of Indian Country.

Its aim has been to raise awareness about First Nations issues; to reach out to other groups and disseminate information; and to raise funds / supplies for various native concerns. While the group remains fairly small and there have been personnel changes within this time, these guiding principles remain the same.

Within this time we have been honoured to participate in the following.....

Taken part in a Race Relations forum with Lakota people in Rapid City, South Dakota;

Interviewed Oglala activists taking over the Tribal Headquarters at Pine Ridge

Helped the Annishinabe harvest wild rice at Leech Lake, Minnesota;

Raised funds for native causes from charity stalls, sky diving and bungee jumping

Visited a school on Pine Ridge reservation and helped provide supplies;

Personally delivered food and toys to orphanages in Pine Ridge;

Raised money and sent supplies to ‘HELPING HANDS’ at Wounded Knee.

Contributed written material and raised funds for ‘ONE SPIRIT’, a charitable organisation based in  Pine Ridge

Joined FRIENDS of NATIVE NATIONS, a network organisation in the U.K.

INDIGENOUS LINKS has also been active in the campaign to release Leonard Peltier. We have regularly taken part in the annual vigil outside the U.S Embassy; we are a UK source of contact for Peltier’s Defence Committee; we’ve raised funds and sent supplies for his Winter Gift Drive; and continue to provide what support and awareness we can.
